Ometepe is an island in Lake Nicaragua formed by two volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas. The name derives from the Nahuatl words ome (two) and tepetl (mountain), meaning two mountains. It’s possible to climb Concepción, an active volcano, and look inside at the steaming sulfuric gases.
Kaela Frank is an educator and facilitator from Brunswick, Maine. She currently works at Davidson College as a Study Abroad Counselor. Kaela holds an M.A. in Peace Education from the University for Peace in Costa Rica. She likes climbing mountains, baking banana bread and lying in śavāsana.
