[dropcap size=small]Y[/dropcap]ou read it right: there’s a 13-year-old girl in Mongolia who hunts with A GOLDEN EAGLE. Her name is Ashol-Pan, and she’s definitely cooler than you.

BBC News spoke with photographer Asher Svidensky on World Update, and he describes Ashol-Pan as a “smiling, sweet and shy girl.” A sweet girl who unleashes her trained golden eagle to take down cute animals like foxes (warning: video link contains graphic content of aforementioned action).

How unique is Ashol-Pan? She’s a Kazakh in the Altai mountain range in western Mongolia. These Kazakhs are the only people that hunt with golden eagles. There are around 400 practicing falconers today. Ashol-Pan is likely the country’s only apprentice huntress.

Of Ashol-Pan, photographer Svidensky says, “To see her with the eagle was amazing…She was a lot more comfortable with it, a lot more powerful with it and a lot more at ease with it.”
